Listening to the Silence: The Hidden Elements of Familial Trafficking

Many people struggle to wrap their minds around familial trafficking, yet it is real and is happening all around us creating victims silenced by generational secrets. This session will look at the hidden elements of familial trafficking, including why someone might sell a relative, the intersection between familial trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, how to identify a potential victim of familial trafficking, and the unique biopsychosocial needs of familial trafficking survivors.

Objectives from presentation:
1. Learn what familial trafficking is and different hypothesis surrounding why someone might sell a vulnerable relative
2. Learn about the intersection between familial trafficking (sex and labor) and the intersection with commercial sexual exploitation
3. Learn the unique biopsychosocial needs of familial trafficking survivors
