1.0 Executive Summary
“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Beloved: Not Forgotten, Inc. (Beloved) is a faith based, 501(c)(3) non-profit agency based in Northern Indiana, that will provide immediate safety and long-term care for those victimized by Domestic Sex Trafficking (DST), Exploitation, and Sexual Abuse (sexually exploited youth) in Northern Indiana. This will be accomplished in a safe, homelike, loving environment where youth can recover from the extreme trauma that they have experienced. To receive youth into the program we will partner with like-minded organizations, local judicial systems, and local law enforcement/juvenile agencies.
The Indiana Protection for Abused and Trafficked Humans Task Force (IPATH) reported that since 2016, over three hundred (300) youth have been identified as survivors of human trafficking in Indiana. Since 36% of survivors are trafficked by immediate family and cannot return home, the need for a safe home in Northern Indiana is undeniable.
Currently, there are no residential placement options dedicated exclusively to serving victims of human trafficking (adults or children) in Indiana. Facilities such as Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie and Lutherwood/Ascent 121 in Indianapolis currently house and serve child trafficking victims. In certain instances, domestic violence shelters have housed and served adult victims. Other service providers serving vulnerable youth are addressing the trauma experienced by children who have been trafficked even without having specific trafficking programs. Trafficking survivors need specialized trauma-focused care, designed for their particular needs. In providing safety and addressing the needs for female survivors, ages 18-24 years old, we hope to reduce the amount of time trauma is experienced, increasing the possibility of quicker, more effective healing.
Beloved will provide holistic healing venues through partnerships with outside agencies to offer counseling, addiction services, education, and opportunities to learn a trade. We will also offer these services in-house for youth who are not yet ready to be integrated back into what we consider normal, everyday life activities. We will require a three-month commitment while allowing them to stay for approximately two years. During that time, youth will receive medical care and counseling services and will participate in educational and life skill building activities, and trauma healing therapies such as art and music. The focus will be slightly different for each youth but the goal remains the same; empower them to make positive changes in their lives. It is our belief that full healing can only come through experiencing the unconditional love of God. Only through developing a sense of empowerment can these youth reclaim their lives, transform their destinies and gain purpose to positively influence the lives of others.
